It’s cliched to be cynical about Christmas, Half Man Half Biscuit
The photo above of a store's Christmas display looks fairly ho-hum. What makes it astonishing is that I snapped it in August.
August. That’s before
Father’s Day. Sorry, dads.
And the thought of a store getting ready for Christmas in
August provokes bemusement at best and cynicism at worst.
So we despair, "Can't believe how commercialised Christmas is..."
But then again, every day is commercialised. Each day, we are being sold something. Why would Christmas be any different? Sure, it’s the pinnacle. But it’s no
different to the day before. And the day after.
This song offers an antidote. It's right there in the title...
It's cliched to be cynical
Don't roll your eyes at Christmas. Enjoy...
Make a noise with your
toys
And ignore the killjoys
And ignore the killjoys
I guess its like NYE fireworks. We're cynical about those too. But Ignatius Jones, the artistic director of these once said, "A man tired of fireworks is a man tired of life!"
Amen!
So this Christmas, like the song says, be noisy. Play. Have fun with your toys. Enjoy!
And don’t
forget to fight commercialism at Easter, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Halloween
and June the 3rd.
What’s June the 3rd?
Exactly.
Every day we are being sold something. Fight the good fight all year round.
So with all that in mind, have yourself a very merry 60” LCD
4K Home Theatre Gaggia Cappucino Heated Towel Rack Outdoor Kitchen Water
Feature Cactus lamp Pineapple statue Mason Jar Foot Massager PS4 iPhone X Christmas!
"Now, now, Costa. Don't be cynical..."
Sorry, sorry...
